Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones celebrate their tenth wedding anniversary today.
When the couple announced their engagement just over 10 years, Hollywood cynics scoffed that the union of a recovering sex addict, actor - today and a Hollywood beauty 25 years his junior was destined to fail but of celebration - legendary drinking and infidelity toast shows how wrong they were.
In a climate that is used to unsuccessful marriages, the couple, who were introduced to each other in 1998 by Danny DeVito, have survived the harassers, court cases, fragmentation of the family, and now newly diagnosed Douglas cancer.
The actor has just finished a course of eight weeks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and is optimistic. The doctors have informed the star that the treatment has a 80 percent rate of success.
Despite having lost almost 40 pounds, the actor is positive, saying that the experience has brought him closer to his family, especially his father - whom he described as "angry and often absent" in his youth.
